The board of directors of Dhaka Stock Exchange on Sunday nominated Swapan Kumar Bala, a Dhaka University professor of accounting and information systems department, as chief executive officer of the bourse.
The decision came at an emergency board meeting presided over by DSE president Rakibur Rahman.
‘The board of directors has nominated Swapan Kuman Bala as the bourse’s CEO. Now, we will forward our decision to the Bangladesh Securities
and Exchange Commission for approval,’ DSE chief financial officer and
acting CEO Shuvra Kanti Choudhury told New Age.
‘The DSE will appoint Swapan Kumar Bala as its CEO after getting approval from the BSEC,’ Shuvra Kanti added.
The DSE, in its previous board meeting, primarily selected Swapan Kumar Bala and Mizanur Rahman, also a DU associate professor of accounting and information systems department.
Earlier on January 9, Musharraf M Hussain resigned as CEO of the bourse alleging that the board of directors did not follow corporate culture.
As per the securities rule, the DSE has to appoint a new CEO within 90 days after the post falls vacant.
