Govt to send 30,000 workers to KL in 3 months

The government will send 30,000 workers to Kuala Lumpur within the next three months, as their data information would be sent to Malaysian government next month, ministry officials told at a parliamentary committee meeting today. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment was held at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) with its president Anisul Islam Mahmud in the chair.

Committee members Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, M Shahab Uddin, Col (rtd) A A Maruf Saklan, Zafarul Islam Chowdhury and Shahida Tareq Dipti were present at the meeting. The meeting was informed that the ministry had sent clean data for 8,391 out of 10,000 workers to Malaysia after final selection. The committee recommended the ministry to take effective measures quickly for sending workers to Kuala Lumpur and remove complexity on 'Iqama' change issue of illegal migrants in Saudi Arabia.

The JS body also discussed the progress of Iqama change issue and it was informed that the government provided assistance for 2,44,519 migrants in Saudi. A bill to amend the Expatriate Welfare Fund Act-2002 would be passed in the JS next session as it was approved by the cabinet, the meeting said.
