Bangladesh investment summit, Europe attracts 300 participants

Over 300 investors, fund managers, multinational company executives participated in the inaugural Bangladesh Investment Summit held in London last week.
The conference was organised by FinanceAsia and AsianInvestor at Grosvenor House, Park Lane with a view to attracting European investors.
Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh was the main sponsor of the event, said a press release.
SCB Bangladesh CEO Jim McCabe delivered the chairman’s welcome speech while Jim O’Neill, former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and former chief economist of Goldman Sachs, gave the opening keynote address.
The plenary address on Bangladesh’s economic trends, issues and prospects was delivered by Bangladesh Bank chief economist Hassan Zaman. 
 ‘A growing domestic middle class in a country with over 150 million, mostly young people, presents significant business opportunities and the medium run economic growth path will withstand current domestic political tensions,’ he said.
Former deputy prime minister and founder of Haymarket Group Lord Heseltine, The Daily Star editor and publisher Mahfuz Anam and Nirukt Sapru of SCB South East Asia and South Asia also spoke at the event.
Bangladesh high commissioner in the United Kingdom Mohamed Mijarul Quayes delivered the concluding speech.
