The Chittagong Stock Exchange on Saturday elected four shareholder-directors, among nine candidates, to form its first demutualised board. The four winning directors are Mirza Salman Ispahani of ISPI Securities with 92 votes, Mohammad Khairul Anam Chowdhury of LankaBangla Securities with 86 votes, Mohammed Mohiuddin of Island Securities with 58 votes and Md Shamsul Islam of Be Rich with 57 votes.
The four shareholder-directors, the seven independent directors selected by the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday and the chief executive officer-turned-managing director of the port city board will form a 12-member board as a strategic investor is yet to be selected for the directorship. As per the demutualised scheme, there should be a 13-member board. The BSEC on Thursday selected seven independent directors from the list of 14 submitted by the CSE for the first demutualised board. The independent directors are former NBR chairman Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Chittagong University professor Mohammad Ayub Islam, former CSE director Moinul Islam Mahmud, former Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association president Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, BGMEA first vice-president Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Institute of Chartered Accountants Bangladesh president Showkat Hossain and former ICMAB chairman Momtaz Uddin Ahmed.
